GENERAL NEWS: Tucson, Copyright, 5 Things to Do

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I just returned from a quick visit to my Mother in Tucson, Arizona. She is an incredible women, still raising seeds from endangered plant species and very active in the Tucson Cactus and Succulent Society. She lives with two cats, a dog, a greenhouse, a cactus house and a yard filled with 47 trees that she grew mostly from seed. She has created an oasis in the middle of the desert and many desert critters come to her home for water, shade and a snack. She has a wonderful saying that “old age is not for sissies” and as I’ve watched her age, I can tell you that my Mother is a fighter, not a sissy! I only hope that she can continue the lifestyle that she has created and enjoy the baby quails another year or more.

It was 104 degrees in Tucson but still not as hot as a summer in Columbia ;-} We’ve had rain however and everything is getting to be that fat, lush green that vibrates. I have two teenage rabbits in my yard and I love watching them hop down the bunny trail. It isn't August yet but I guess you can say that summers in Columbia are not for sissies ;-}

Our summer classes are going well and Elizabeth Miller and the School Library Media Faculty have been working diligently in getting the new guidelines for the program out and helping students understand the portfolio and internship requirements. More information is at http://www.libsci.sc.edu/program/SLMCertificationChecklistMay2007.pdf
If you have questions or comments don’t hesitate to contact me.

We also have revised our required core courses and that information is at http://www.libsci.sc.edu/newcore/basicpage.htm. Again, let me know if you have questions.

There are some new photos on the blog slideshow and I encourage you to check it out and hold discussions by commented on the postings at http://fridaymatters.blogspot.com/2007/05/general-news-new-slideshow.html. In the meantime, here are your 5 things to do, read or think about for this week:
